Tax Credit Hiring and Training Support
By partnering with CareerSource CLM, businesses not only gain access to qualified, skilled job
candidates but may also be eligible for special programs and tax credits.
Explore the Federal Bonding Program and Work Opportunity Tax Credit in the details below.
Federal Bonding Program
Purpose: The Federal Bonding Program is an incentive program that allows businesses to minimize liability to their business by hiring at-risk applicants who may otherwise be an ideal fit and/or deserve a second chance. The program covers eligible existing employees to avoid layoff or to secure a promotion.
Coverage: Through a Federal Fidelity Bond, businesses are insured against any loss of money or property due to a bonded employee’s dishonesty (theft, forgery, larceny or embezzlement). This bond does not cover liability due to poor workmanship, job-related injuries or work accidents. Bonds are in units of $5,000 and provide coverage for a six-month period.
Qualifications: All businesses are eligible for bonding services. They can be issued as soon as the applicant has a job offer and a scheduled start date.
Work Opportunity Tax Credit
Purpose:
The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal income tax credit for private, for-profit businesses that hire candidates who face significant barriers to employment. Eligible job seekers from among eight targeted groups include veterans, ex-felons, and SSI recipients.
Coverage:
Business can reduce taxes up to $9,600 over two years, depending on the qualified candidate.
Qualifications:
WOTC certification must be submitted within 28 days of the employee’s start date. There is no limit to the number of qualified employees for which a business may claim credit. To qualify, eligible workers must be employed for at least 120 hours.
